Walkie-Talkies

I have a pair of those 0.5W 410MHz walkie-talkies but let's face it how useful are they? Does anyone have any advice on which models to get that are reasonably easy to buy (ebay considered) and don't require a backpack to carry around?

Apparently, CB has eventually made it to Hong Kong.

orrock is on a distinguished road
i guess it depends on your application to how useful they are. i use 0.5 watt and thinks its good. if youre going hiking and having mountains and trees in the path or in the city with buildings and a fair distance between you and the other party then you probably want to get higher watt for more power. usually the original antenna is quite cheap so you may like to check if you can upgrade it to a more powerful one.

I have yet to see a real use for the 0.5W units other than childrens' birthday parties. The 4W units should be able to penetrate most obstructions but the units I've seen on eBay seem uhmm "dated".

Do you mean check out the low power walkie-talkies or CB handsets?

juz shows the legal Walkie Talkie available...

category = 409 channel......

http://www.409shop.com/409mhz.htm

you can go to Shum Shu Po to buy Walkie from this shop.

It's not the cheapest...but got professional ideas...

i would suggest you to use Moto. T5728, while others are "toys" only....

My friend told me the elec. component using in T5728 is near-professional grade while other lower rank models using "toys" grade ........

the price should be about 330-350 a piece...

In hongkong...common practice channel 9 is for emergency use, so better don't use it....
so if you walk countryside.....and unfortunately something happened...u can use channel 9 to call for help......

I started this thread to get advice on buying CB radios. To-date I haven't had any luck finding a supplier of OFTA-approved sets.

Discobay,

FOR 409 license-free sets....

You should easily find one in Broadway or Fortress......but the price is higher...

You can find the best price in Ap Liu Street of Shum Shui Po......

Check if the Warranty Card is a Hong Kong One..If yes..you get the right model...

Them most important, Remember to check the OFTA approved label on the package ...

There are 2 requirement for License fee equipment

the power should not be over 0.5 Watt

the Channel Freq. should be 490MHz
