| | | Virtual Memory My computer is getting slower day by day, although I still have a quarter of free space in C: and half free in D: and I don't usually open up more than 2 programs at a time. I run three different spyware, adware and antivirus programs everyday, so computer should be free from those. For the last couple of weeks though, I keep getting a screen bubble that says my computer's virtual memory is low. Maybe that is the reason for the slowness. But I am loss at to what I should do to counteract this warning. What else should I watch out for? Please help! | |

| | | Thank you Jimbo Thanx for fixing my problem. My computer is now as fast as new! One more question if I may, do you know why I recently get a screen from time to time saying "Connection is Reset" with a "try again" button when I surf the web? Is it a setting problem on my computer. a wireless router problem or a spyware problem do you reckon?

| | | Allow me to jump in here whilst jimbo is away making a coffee ... sounds like you're connecting using wi-fi and if you are not moving around too much then it maybe related to the power-saving mode being used by your notebook. Check this out and enable maximum performance to see if it makes any difference. | |

| | | Thank you Discobay! I have indeed changed the power management setting a couple of weeks ago. Now that I have lessen the power savings on my computer, those "connection reset" pages seem to have disspeared! Thanx Discobay for your great advise! | |

| | | Additionally, I would not set the page file values way too high either.
If you have 512MB RAM, I would not allocate more than 1536MB for the "Maximum Size" of the page file.

| | | In that case, maybe I should get more RAM once and for all then! Are those cheap? Is it a DIY job or I should get it done by staff at computer shops? And could you recommend a good, honest shop where I can get the chip or have it fixed? | |

| | | Ram Looking at the system page, I am running on Windows XP with only 256RAM. I don't know how I exhaust my computer's memory though. I don't think I have that many programmes installed, and I only use Office, Firefox, Outlook on a daily basis. Having said that, I have only got a small collection of documents and photos. I rarely open more than 2 programmes at a time.
Looking at the "Processes" in the Task Manager, there seems to be a lot of programmes running. Could there be something that is running unnessessarily?

| | | xp is a memory hog. you need at least 512mb of ram to make it run reasonably well. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 12:26 AM. | Partners |
