Xp

Is it feasible to change OS...to NT or something less of a memory hog? I know some would immediately say "get a Mac". But I have gone to Apple shop and tried one, while I love the incredibly lovely screen effects, all the screen buttons and controls are so different and it seems that I may take too long a while to get used to. So, I'd rather stick to Windows if I can help it.

best bet is to stick with xp and upgrade your ram, another 256mb shouldn't cost more than a couple of hundred dollars. the shop will fit it for free anyway as it only takes a minute.

Don't go NT if you want an easy life. It's not as user-friendly as 2000 or XP. If your computer came with XP you will not be able to downgrade. You can overwrite it with Windows 2000 which is less of a memory hog and has most of what XP offers. But at the end of the day you would be better off running XP for its compatibility with most other devices out there and its life cycle too. More RAM is definately recommended.

Ram

Thanx Jimbo, I am thinking of taking my computer to 2C or that big "Notebook something" shop in Windsor House. Those shops okay? Is it the more RAM, the better?

512mb to 1gb (preferably) should be enough for your needs.

but once vista comes, 1gb is the min. requirement i'd think.

but for me... you can never have too much ram. hehehe!

those shops are fine, but you might get a better price at wanchai computer centre.

don't pay more than $200 for a 256mb stick of ram otherwise they're ripping you off.
