Wink Bel Air

Hi well there r 2 Bel Airs.. there is one on the peak and one close to soputhside?? The one near Southside is extremely expensive very nice though.. but if on a low to mid budget then forget it!
There are lots of accomodation out there!!
Try Sallmanns Real estate.... they seemed to have great knowledge and their expat staff have been here a long time, just be clear on your budget as a lot of places do Exclusive and the extras can bump up the price a lot!

Jenni at sallmanns helped us and she was a gem.. she also sorted all our utilities when we moved in and called a few times a week to make sure all was well...
Hope u find what ur looking for! Take your time and make sure u get what u want as most contracts r for 2 years!

There are quite a few GeoBaby members with young kids living in Belair. Its a nice complex, facilities are great. They have their own shuttle service. Its 25 mins to Central by car.

Depending on where you need to get to over the border you should consider the Gold Coast at Tuen Mun. My office is located in Tuen Mun town and we have factories over the border, our staff who spend alot of time at the factories and some that don't, live at the Gold Coast - a massive, apartment, hotel, shopping and marina complex. It is not as good as they ads make out but they all seem pretty happy there. (all westerners, some with kids).
Also I believe the some ferries that leave from the Shun Tak building in Sheung Wan (near central) go to China - our factory is moving and I'm told that travelling by ferry will be the best way to get there from the city. Going from there would make somewhere like The Belchers a good option for you to consider.
Other places I've heard of that may be suitable are Discovery Bay and Carribean Coast but it all depends on exactly where you are going, how often and how you plan to get there. No matter where you live the border crossing is going to make your travel time huge - sometimes our people get stuck for hours so a serviced apartment while you suss it out would be an excellent option to consider.
Look at some of the other threads using the search function for specific advice on each of these places and furniture etc, it has all been well covered and would help you alot.

Moving to Bel-Air from Charlotte, NC

We're moving in about a month and we'll be in Phase 2 Tower 8 of the Bel-Air development. You're welcome to PM me if you have any questions about Bel-Air. However, I know nothing about commuting to SZ. We also have a young child, although not as young as yours. Ours will be in 1st Grade at HKIS.

Bel-Air

Bel air as i ahve checked is in Pokfulam and me being a dosey so and so.. should have known as we actually looked at apartments!
There is phase 1 and 2 bel-air on the peak... they were really nice apartment but felt that 3,000 people all battling for the pool on a weekend was a little much for us!
But was a fantastic complex with lots of children
Hope this has helped?

If you were to live on southside of HK island, wouldn't the commute to SZ run about 2 hours each way, not counting the border crossing?
I am thinking 30 minutes to Central and 45 minutes from TST to SZ and 15-30 minutes to cross the harbor (all public transportation times).
And the ferry is not convenient if you are heading to the Lo Wu crossing area of SZ?

From NC as well

Hello NC2006,

I was interested to see you are moving to HK from NC. I have been living in London for the last 4 years but originally hail from NC (Thomasville). Having first child in Sept and moving in July, would love to know how you get on and where you chose to live. Would be good to have some people from home about.

Moving from US

HK2006:

Have you decided on a place to live yet? We are moving from US (Michigan) in August and are considering Bel-Air, Parkview, and Belcher's. All seem to be very family friendly, which is most impotant to us. We have a 2 1/2 year old boy and I will be staying at home for the first time and would love to meet other moms with toddlers. If you wife is interested, please send a pm.

Good luck on your move!

Bel-Air complex is on the south side of HK island. (aberdeen)

If you'd to travel between shenzhen and HK daily. It's kinda place out of reach. At least 3 tunnels you've to go through before reaching the boarder. Same as South bay and repulse bay. (travelling time may over 1.5 hour)

I'd suggest you may try to look at Tai Po, where you can find some good low rise, spicous, good sea view and they have good facilities support. And really is not too bad for culture shock. It is somewhat consider a younger generation of luxury residence. And it's only a few stations away from Law Woo station. (i.e. boarder of HK & China) within 15-20 mins train travelling time.

The other one you should be looking is Kowloon Tong. Of course, Kln Tong is kind of in the city. You'd expect things are more convenience, however sacrified the spacious and sea view. Of course, if your budget could go up to 40K, you'd have quite some choices. More travelling time to the boarder is expected. (within 30-45 mins)
