Big Wave Bay (close to Shek O) is popular with surfers. Only once have I seen real waves there but there are always surfers in the water and the pictures on the wall at the cafe show it can get really big.

I'd say the waves at Shek-O/Big Wave Bay are very small, but think it depends like most places when you go (eg after typhoon it is meant to be very good) . We went to Tai Long Wan in Sai Kung on the weekend, it is definitely worth the trip and the waves were better. It is very isolated and quite stunning. I am sure you'd like it.

Check out link for instructions on how to get there http://www.hkoutdoors.com/new-territ...-sai-kung.htmlhttp://www.hkoutdoors.com/new-territ...-sai-kung.html

To get to Shek O and Big Wave Bay take the MTR to She Kei Wan (Island line) and then a bus. 9 and 309 I think or a minibus.

now you got me all confused....

Deep water bay is situated in the south of HK Island, while Clear Water Bay is nr Sai Kung (south of Kowloon)

for more details of HK beaches, check out http://www.hkoutdoors.com/hong-kong/...g-beaches.html

There is more than one deep water bay and I think more than one big wave bay too. Deep Water Bay on HK Island is not going to give you any surf. I remember a long post a few months back about a groups organising a surf trip - do a search of the forum and see what you get.
