any one got anything to recommend?

by best friend is dying for one, and i think it'll be a nice present for him, as HK is cheaper than Europe.

For a brand name model you can't go far wrong with Panasonic, I have the l50 model which is a fe wyears old now but works perfectly.

I recommend the portable media player than portable dvd player...
the size is much smaller but still come with reasonable screen size...
the battery life is much longer which allow to play it without plug into AC for over 10 hrs subject to the extent of models...

Allow you to display not only video..but also music and photos...

Which portable media player do you like? I've got a PSP which I really like for the movies but the UMD disks seem expensive and converting DVDs to MP4 is too slow.

I second the recommendation for the Panasonic L50. I think it's been superceded by a newer model.
The PSP is primarily a gaming machine. Fine for music and photos but not ideal for video.
