We have organised a fundraiser evening this Friday night in aid of Hong Kong Dog Rescue and Hong Kong Alley Cats. Both of these reputable charities dedicate their time and resources to rescuing abandoned dogs and cats in Hong Kong, and finding new, loving homes for these gorgeous animals.

Every year in Hong Kong thousands of puppies, dogs, kittens and cats are destroyed simply because they are homeless. It makes no difference if they are friendly or not, if they are young or old, pure or mixed breed, healthy or sick. They all die just the same.

Lately there has been a huge increase in the number of abandoned animals in HK, mostly due to people's fear of avian flu. Many of these dogs and cats have been family pets and housebound all their lives (no where near any birds); they are simply left abandoned out in the street, tied up in secluded areas or surrendered to the Government kennels or the SPCA. Totally domesticated they have no idea how to hunt for food and are totally bewildered and absolutely terrified, especially the small ones.

In order for these 2 charities to continue saving as many abandoned puppies, dogs, kittens and cats as possible, we need your help! Both charities are funded by donations, with no help from the Government. All work is done on a voluntary basis so every donation goes directly towards helping the animals. This Friday night's event will be held at a funky new Spanish bar, Tabu, 34 Wyndham Street, Central (in between Uncle Willie's Deli and the Noodle Box at the top of Lan Kwai Fong) from 7:30pm til late. The owners of the bar (Mimosa Group) have kindly agreed to offer happy hour prices and snacks all night for anyone making a miniumum donation of HK$100 to the charities. All donations will be added up at the end of the night and split evenly between HKDR and HKAC. There will be great music from Tabu's resident DJ; in addition they also have a delicious tapas menu for anyone wanting to have dinner.
