I think most people don't really get what bodybuilding is all about. It's not about girls. that's a bad reason to work out. Those are the guys who suddenly turn up in the summer in the gym taking up space while chatting away ...

Bodybuilding is a great sport because you compete against yourself, you use your own body and sculpt it towards something you strive for. It's a mind versus body thing, and i personally think it's a great sport that i have enjoyed many years.

I wouldn't recommend HGH though as it's quite expensive for small returns. As any medicine, it has side effects but mostly in your wallet.

about the cancer theory : The problem with modern science is that many studies are dubiously performed and for every study that claims something, you can find a study that claims the other.

And these days, everything can cause cancer. Google for ex. water and cancer ; and see what studies you end up... Seriously. take a random food and add the word cancer in google.

HGH is a medicine and medicines should not be abused. It's that simple. But a guy taking some HGH moderately will probably be healthier then the guy who smokes and drinks in the weekend while going to Burger King.

You could say the same about a lot of other, more worthwhile, pursuits though.

It's not a medicine. It's a growth stimulant that occurs naturally during puberty, but then STOPS (aside from mildly during sleep) - presumably for a very good reason. If you take it unnaturally after puberty, you might be fucking with nature in that regard.

I say "might be", because it hasn't really been tested enough to know for certain. With HGH you're kind of taking an untested drug* (*if you'd call it a drug).

Then why would you need performance enhancing drugs? I find nothing wrong with working out or bodybuilding but I think it's sad to take stuff that has been proven to be seriously unhealthy to stare at yourself in the mirror. Just as I find it sad to see people huddling outside getting their nicotine fix or having to get drunk on the weekend to have fun.

If it's all about discipline and mind versus body...then where does taking drugs come in?

Who decides what's more worthwhile?

Would drinking beer and gossiping with the girls at lunch be more worthwhile than bodybuilding then?

If it has some practical application or benefit then it might be more worthwhile than something that doesn't.

Sure, body building's practical application is "lifting heavy things" but that's not much use in modern life.

Absolutely.

Did you seriously just put "socialising" as a pointless pursuit?

It's right up there with money and procreation as one of the entire purposes of life, and pretty much the basis for developing love/friendships/careers.

Problem being, you can only decide for yourself if any given thing is worthwhile. To you, worthwhile means practical. To others, worthwhile may be getting girls, feeling good about themselves, making money, self-improvement or whatever they decide it to be. You don't get to choose for others.
