Oh folks... time to break the news to the masses. The silly medical masks that people have been photographed wearing are NOT FOR YOUR PROTECTION. They don't filter virus / bacteria grade particles. You need some serious filtering capabilities for those masks.

These masks are geared to protect others around you .. so, when you sneeze, you don't sneeze on them.

Next time I see someone wearing the mask, I'm going to beat them with a clue stick!

Maybe we should try to get hold of some of those industrial strength ones that British and American forces in the Middle East were seen donning, so we can feel safe but look even sillier!

i thought this was obvious? does a surgeon think he is going to get a cold from his surgery? no.. it's so his skin flakes, breath droplets and spittle don't fall on your pancreas while he's in there...

Umm - I think you will find that people wearing these masks do actually KNOW they are not protecting themselves but protecting others! Seems to be an Asian cultural thing - not done in the West so we just assume that people wearing masks are protecting themselves .... Actually I think it's really impressive.

I agree. Though I used to laugh when this old guy, who seemed to be an OCD hygeine obsessive, would cover up his face or put on his mask whenever a westerner passed him in our block of units in Aegean Coast...
