Hi, I am doing a postgraduate degree in Hong Kong and plan to work here after graduation in September. I am originally from Singapore, have stayed in Australia and China before and am also fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. My BA(Hons) degree was in Economics and Philosophy and I want to go into journalism or finance or both. A friend told me recently that 60% of all available jobs are not posted in the Classifieds; I wonder how true this is? I have responded to some job advertisements in SCMP classified but have not heard anything so far. My expectations are not high as I am acutely aware of my lack of experience, yet this is proving to be difficult because many employers are not willing to hire foreigners without much work experience. Suggestions greatly appreciated for how I can go about increasing my chances of getting a journalism or finance job in Hong Kong.

And also try to find someone who is a (journo/correspondent) member of the Foreign Correspondents' Club who could introduce you there...

Thanks both for the very useful replies. But pardon me, where can I locate the Foreign Correspondents' Club or its members in Hong Kong? I mostly hang around with university researchers and locals so I really want to broaden my circle of friends.
