Lightbulb Working in Hong-Kong (does salary matter)?

Hi All,

I'm planning to work in Hong-Kong as it would my first kind of experience so like to have some details and idea about the pay package and costing to live in Hong-Kong.

> As a bachelor how much one should expect salary, let say 12K Hong Kong?

Will it be good enough to enjoy as normal life and do some saving too (approximate)?

It would be highly appreciable of honest response from the groups.

Thanks and regards
Anand

How long is a piece of thread?

Salary figures are first of all dependant on experience and job description.

I'm sure a financial analyst at say ... Morgan Stanley would not want to move to HK for 12K a month, even if he were a bachelor. Neither would a senior level programmer.

12K is your basic entry level salary for a college grad these days and most of them live at home with their parents.

With about 4-5K for low end housing (which might lead to high travel costs) and about 3K for misc expenses like internet / phone / electricity and groceries you might not have too much left over.

I'd look at this thread for more information.

Another salary question: Is 40K enough for two?

it totally depends on your lifestyle and where you want to live and work and also the industry you wish to work in.

theres so many variables in this.

do you need a work permit as well? If so then you need to be looking at a job paying a minimum of 20k a month to secure a work permit thats if you have skills and experience which can't be found locally.

12k is not a lot of money at all.

to rent a place on your own can be anything from around $4k upwards and then travelling costs on top so factor in about $800 a month and then bills budget for around $1k a month. for a start.

Well, company is taking care of accommodation; I will have to take care of groceries and entertainment I would like to do may be not expensive.

So, as per your calculation the 5K would be saving, which is rent basically.

Regards
