Need Espresso Machine!!!

Hello all,

I moved to HK from NY with my beloved Francis Francis X1, the machine broke during transit...ACK, long painful story short, after four months of attempting repair with the HK distributor, I am being told they can't help me!

So, now I am in the market to look for my new morning, afternoon, and then way too many cups of espressos again. I loved the Francis for its design, the creama is wonderful, but I do think the steaming milk part sucks! I somehow always get spitting water in it instead of steam milk. However I do love the optional Illy pots, it's so quick and easy; and I can change with mass quantity. Even though I am more of a quick shot girl, I do love a capp every Sat afternoon or so. So milk may not be my biggest issue.

To me, the FF is more like a Ferrari than a Volvo. Sometimes life just demands style and fun. And since I can't have the car, I may as well indulge a little in something I play with everyday for a lot less. I noticed a lot of new auto models exist in hotels and people's offices, they have extra tubes to pass fresh milk through, they grind beans per cup and you just press a button! (I am sure they cost half a car too!) They are magical but also massive in size, probably will take up half my counter top, so that would be nuts.

I am in need of recommendation on recent models and where I can get it. I want to see if any of you out there got a great espresso machine! I am willing to spend, but need something that's worth the splurge. I tasted the Nespresso and wasn't in love with the coffee itself... so taste aside from design is a big issue too.

On the other hand, since I got so angry and wrote to them, the Francis distributor in HK is offering me a new red X1 for $3800. Is that a good deal? Should I go for it? I see that price on eBay so I don't think it's "that" special a price for them to offer an upset customer! But then eBay has it only for US voltage! So given a new opt, should I bite and take the FFX1, or change ship and upgrade???

Thanks a bunch in advance
Viva caffeine!

P

nespresso... UGGGGHHH.. swill.....

... what exactly are you looking for... coffee lovers range from saeco/jura to rancilio silvia...... in simple terms..... are you a press that button and get a coffee or a crema perfectionist....

the price for these gizmos range from about 4k to 20k... and don't forget the machine is only as good as a grinder...

And the monkey that grinds it!

Gaggia and Krups are well reccomended.

The Francis Francis X1 does have good reviews though so it might be better to stick with what you know.

It's all about the crema!!! I am unfamiliar with Rancilio Sivia... tell me more.
I think my friend in NY bought a Saeco, it's such a Cadillac! The price tag is nuts to if I remember right?

So what do you think?

I expect a great cup! Of course it's for home, and I will be using it maybe several times a day? Where can you look at Saeco? Fortress?
