Saw them on display in Borneo! They are quite cool!!!

Haven't been to Xi'an yet, but its a must for the wife and I. However that said, we were lucky to have been in Kuching, Sarawak on the island of Borneo in the Autumn of 2004 while some of the terracotta warriors were doing a world tour of sorts. We spent an evening viewing about 60 of these things up close, and they are something special.

I can now only imagine how cool it would be to visit they can be found in the thousands, Xi'an. I really hope you can get up close to some of these human like statues when you visit. And please let me know what you think after your trip. The wife and I are planning a long tour of China for Spring 2007 and Xi'an is definitely on the list of places to see.

I went to Xian for a long weekend (Easter) in 2002. It was fantastic. The terracotta warriors are definitely breathtaking, although you do need a lot of patience - it was VERY crowded when I went. You can combine this tour with a city tour or a trip to Banpo Village (one of the neolithic settlements well worth visiting). As I am quite interested in Chinese history and am collecting Chinese antiques the factories they dragged us in producing fakes were an absolute hoot... Terracotta warrior for the back yard anyone..? Don't miss the Xian Museum, it gives the Shanghai Museum a run for it's money. The muslim quarter is worth a visit too - sample the food there, try to do it without any tour guide. I went on a tour (actually just me and the guide/driver) to the Famen temple too. It leads all the way though the hills were the Tang dynasty thombs are. We stopped at a couple of sites on route.

outstanding - if your hotel is in Xian town centre (stayed at sheraton) just grab a cab to beat the tour buses and crowds.

We jumped on a local minibus to the terracotta warriers - an interesting adventure but everything worked out fine. We took a picture of the warriers and a bus driver pointed to a bus which we should get on. The journey was about 45-50 minutes and the bus driver told us when to get off. The journey back was easy enough to - the bus had Xian bus station written on it. It was only 5 yuan !! We got the details from the rough guide book.

There are walls that surround Xian city and you can hire bikes and cycle on the walls. The Bell Tower is also good.

Have fun!

i lived in xi'an about 1 year...it was the best city for me...personally speaking

i like chinese mainlanders attitude and life outlook a lot more than HK general public (that ive interacted with)

terracota warriors thing blew monkey goats....at least when i went it did
it was like a big epty warehouse with them thrown in the bottom....

maybe the place wasnt all done up nice yet, i dont know....but i never went back

but then again...i dont like to go to touristy places as is...so never mind what i say....

what?

ohh...and the chinese muslim market (located near one of the bell towers....has the BEST cakes (actually they are breads and snacks - but called cakes)

seriously to die for......

also...get the xiao long bao at this place near the southern exit of muslim market....big dumpling resteraunt....cant miss it....

they are the juiciest delicious flavor packs ever....
and make sure you eat it proper (not like down here):
bite open dumpling skin > pour juice into spoon > dip dumpling into spicy chili and vinegar sauce > eat dumpling and burn throat > wash it down with juice
soooooo goooood
