| | | If you want a Giant brand bike make sure you get one built in Taiwan not China. The difference in quality control is huge. Same goes for Merida and GT. Which model Giant bike do you want? Yukkon's are less than $2000 and Iguana's are around the $3000 mark. You'll be able to know a few hundred dollars off at most stores but shop around because there are quite a few price variations. | |

it costs 398 rmb. they threw in a basket and a motorcylce bike lock. they would not come down in price. i first started at 350 and then 375, they were apologetic they wouldn't come down in price.
how can you tell if they are made in china or taiwan?
they have cheap atx mountain bikes with front suspension here. they are 800-1100 rmb

| | | Giant MAESTRO Trance 2 Dear all,
I'm interested in buying a Giant MAESTRO Trance 2 - MTB, but really don't know where I can find one. It's the same for me to buy it in HK or Shenzhen, but I'm not informed about good shops, sales points or distributors where to go. Can you help me further, please?
About made in China or in Taiwan: if it is in the box than no problem, for sure the label will be available, but if not, how can I understand where it comes from?
If someone has experience in it, can you please even give me a comment about the model, I will appreciate it a lot. It will be my first Giant (I'm switching to it after a Specialized).
Finally a question about a good track to go: are there some "must tracks" in HK where to pedal with fun and nice views??? I'm new here in SouthAsia and not experienced in places and locations.
Thanks for your help and support.
Best regards,

| | | Frank, the Giant dealer is in Wanchai.
If you go down Wanchai Road, going towards Causeway Bay, after 300m you get to a traffic light. Turn right (almost doubling back) and you will see the bike shop on your left. There is a guy there called Kong who seems OK- the owner is a prick though.
The only other shop in town worth visiting is Flying Ball but they have moved into a stupid new location. For the HKD20k you will spend on the Giant you may want to go up there and check out a Santa Cruz Blur or something.

If you are going to spend a lot of money on a bike it may be well worth checking them out. There are plenty of other specialised places around, but can be hard to find them.
I use a place in Tai Wai thats a bit hidden but run by a guy who has a passion for bikes and will build standard or specialised machines. As for trails many people have found their own! There are about 10 designated MTB trails in HK but to ride them you must have a permit issued by the Country and Marine Partks authority. It's free to apply for though.

| | | Thanks!!! Thanks guys,
you've been clearer than a "Lonely Planet" guide!!!
I'll check the shops and sellers, but maybe turn to something cheaper.
Anyway, thanks again.

| | | I want to buy a giant bike for my 7 year old. Hi,
Can anyone tell me where to buy a giant bike or any bike shop on Hong Kong Island? If there isn't any, I don't mind going over to Kowloon side. It's for my 7 year old daughter. We've only moved here a month ago.
Cheers!
