JFK --> HKG (just arrived)

Hi there,

Just got here from New York, missing it a ton already. Looks like I missed the Cinco de Mayo gathering, but wanted to see what else might be up for tonight and this weekend.

By the end of my 1+ year stay here, I'm hoping that I'll know more than just my co-workers. (Ok, so it's not so bleak, I do have some old high school friends and family here, but I am feeling a displaced as I just went from knowing tons of people to a significantly smaller number.)

I'm not sure what qualifies you as an expat, as I have lived in HK before and my family's from HK, but I've spent most of my adult life in NYC and Canada so I guess I'm caught between both...

I'm not a big bar/club scene person (yes, there's lots more to do in NY than bars & clubs), any suggestions as to how to best meet some new faces who are also passing through or settling into this city would be great.

-C

Hi guys,

I am new in HK too, coming directly from Paris... I want to meet new people as well, specially if I can practice English with them and get rid of this stupid French accent . What about catching up for a drink once?

As suggestions for the week end I wanted to go to Macau this Sunday (nice food, casinos and Portuguese speaking as a programme)
Please send me PM in case you are interested too...

Pierre

In the same boat

I am here 18 months now from NYC. Born in HK but spent most of my time in the US. Though settled in somewhat now, still feel a bit lost and misunderstood sometimes.

Would like to meet some new friends besides my co-workers.

Maybe we can arrange a get together for next weekend?

I'm flying to Shanghai for work next weekend...but Joey, I'd be glad to meet up sometime. Maybe we can do a brunch thing here the following weekend. Any good brunch places here? Gosh, I miss those NYC brunches...!

You missed a pretty good meet last night. There were quite a few people who are from or have lived in NY (myself included) and the US and lots of people who lived in Canada prior to coming to HK too. Overall a pretty interesting bunch of people Welcome back to HK eannie!

The get together sounded interested - sorry I missed it. Hope there's another one planned in the near future. Eannie, a brunch could be doable, maybe next sunday? I do not know of a good place, maybe some of the vets can suggest one
