well, the local teenagers' usual way of earning cash is by giving private homework tuition to younger kids. If that feels too heavy, you could pitch yourself to the 'learn English through playing/hanging out with responsible older teenager' (which is not an oxymoron in Chinese society). I know of mothers who would pay private tutor rates for older kids who can become role models for their children, sometimes just to do whatever makes sense.
You wont' even have to worry about work visas in that case, if that's an option. Or if you can do DIY I'm sure this forum is full of people who'd love someone English speaking and reliable to take care of projects round the house, rather than fight through a language barrier with a local contractor or carpenter etc.
