I just did the same thing this past summer. Bring with you the old ID card, US passport and your original birth certificate. Go to the Wanchai main Immigration office at 8:45AM. Go to the 2nd Floor to get the application form first then go to the 8th Floor to get a number and submit your application and other info mentioned above. They will interview you first by a clerk and then by the supervisor. This take about 90 minutes total. Once everything is OK they give you a temporary card and you can pick up the new car in 10 working days.
Also once you get the temporary card you can apply for the "Home Visit" card from China Travel. This make travel to China a breeze. And not to say the cost of the visas. |
