US Elections- democracy working?

Indiana

Clinton52%
Obama48%

North Carolina

Obama 56%
Clinton42%

And then there are the other polls... If Obama gets the nomination, there will be more defections of Clinton supporters to McCain, compared to Clinton getting the nod and Obama supporters defecting to McCain.

So... Apparently... nominating the most popular Democrat will send more votes to the Republicans.

They did it. The Democrats actually figured out a way to lose.

Is it just me or is this whole electoral process the most ridiculous, long winded, most expensive and ludicrously inaccurate in the world- with the possible exception of Zimbabwe?
