| I'm on Vista SP1, I'm using a Dell D630. On the 3rd part of the update it did a memory dump, I was like WTF... It did eventually finish the install. After boot up, Vista would be completely bogged down. Determined it was related to AVG antivirus. Had to go to safe mode to uninstall it. Now using a Avira free edition. After this mess, system is stable and is faster than Vista pre SP1. Windows performance rating still the same but apps open quicker and wifi startup is quicker via hibernation and cold boot.
Obviously business adoption to Vista has been slow. I have another laptop that's running XP pro and it's lean and mean (waiting for SP3), still love it. I bought my D630 with XP pro loaded but had to try out Vista myself since I read a lot of negative vibes. I can say I like Vista more than XP, it loads faster and it's stable, like the new features and feel. One big problem they fixed with Vista SP1 was the slow data transfer across network, better now but still not as fast as XP. All in all I like Vista SP1 but can be frustrating for your average users if they hit those BSD or performance degradation. |
