I also plan to take the GZ - Tibet train this coming September. However, Westerners still need a special Tibet travel permit to go there, and this has been made clear on an electronic noticeboard at Guangzhou station. Tickets for the Lhasa train will not be sold to Westerners without this permit. Problem is this permit is easily obtainable in places like Beijing and Chengdu, but as yet I can't find anywhere in the HK/Guangzhou area that can issue it.
China Travel service in HK have said they cannot sell me a ticket for this train or advise me how to get a permit. I'm planning to make a short trip to Guangzhou next month just to try and get information on this. But if anyone knows where I can apply for a permit in HK/Shenzhen or Guangzhou, please tell me! |
