I would recommend Naeba ahead of Shiga Kogen, much better vertical and a bit steeper. Naeba also seems to be much more boarder friendly as well, parts of Shiga Kogen are in fact of limits for boarders!

Wow! Thanks for the heads up. Could you tell me about the prices at Naeba compared to Shiga Kogen. One of the attractive things in Shiga Kogen is that there's a lot of resorts and some are quite affordable. I am there to board and not to pay a lot for digs.
