I have the MacBook and can recommend it heartily. I run Mac:Office on it so can run Excel/Word/PPT etc just as easily as on a PC.
I would also say that price-wise it isn't more expensive. You get more for your dollar and they don't come in at a low spec. If you think Macs are expensive then you obviously haven't had a good look at a Mac mini.
My wife was worried about switching over to a Mac but now finds it really easy to flit around and do anything she wants. OSX is such a simple OS to convert to and widgets make a lot of basic reference work simple as.
