Classifieds Update - New Contact Procedure

As of Sep 1st, we have changed the way in which visitors can contact members who have placed classifieds.
Our previous mechanism allowed visitors to send an email to the advertisers directly. Unfortunately, this had some problems - emails were lost due to inactive email boxes and spam filters. For the users, they were exposing their email addresses to members who had advertised - and potentially getting spam.
The new mechanism requires any visitor who wishes to contact an advertiser to register and send a private message. This way, the message will be stored on Geoexpat and advertisers can keep track of who is responding.
Let us know if you have problems with this procedure.

We used to see several messages to advertisers bounce back because of hotmail / yahoo inactivity or quota problems -- and then had to deal with questions like "why didn't I get any responses". We've also raised the number of private messages that users can keep stored to 1000 to prevent the same problem on our end. Figure that should work. |
