Help!! Desperate for fish and chips...

Hi all, it's my anniversary next week and we're supposed to be going out for a meal but all we both want is fish chips and curry sauce!!!

Does anybody know where there is a good chippy??? I live in Tai Po but I don't mind travelling.. If any one has any suggestions, do you know the name and preferably the road it's on aswell...I've read other threads on fish and chips and haven't got a clue where half of them are... Thank you to anyone who can help.......

Bo, look at the similar thread below and you will find a recommendation or two for the Chippy in Central. Otherwise Delaneys in Wanchai on Jaffe and Luard Road is also very good with larger portions and larger bills. They won't have curry sauce but the Chippy may.

Thanks, I have seen that already but also read the review about the service been pants. I was kind of hoping there might be one closer than central like Mong Kok or TST. It's really difficult living in N.T as I seem to have to go to Central for everything and my husband doesn't finish work until 7pm so everythings so rushed..Thanks alot though, I think the Chippy it is...

    Fish n Chips in TST

Not very authentic, but quite good FnC anyway: Hardrock Cafe in TST.

Also, there is a British Pub in Ashley Road that serves it. Never tried though, but friends say it's worth a try.
They do have a live band every night I guess.

There were also some places in Knutsford Terrace, but obviously this whole area is undergoing a big (re-)construction programme, quite weird. Many premises are closed for now and some are even for rent...

    Enjoy, la... ;-)

I have a local magazine at hand about fish and chips restaurants in HK. I'M NOT RECOMMENDING THEM, JUST TO SHOW HOW EXHORBITANT THEY ARE. This magazine recommends a few places. The Jockey Fish and Chips is sold at $109. One restaurant at the intercontinental hotel has a fish and potato dish for $750 (price according to season)! Another restaurant has a fried silver cod dish(a very small portion) at $310.THe fish bar in Marriot Hotel has fish and chips dishes from $145 to $198.

We used to have Harry's Ramsden a few years ago, I had a dish for $55, reasonable.

I bet most fish and chips are sold under 5 pounds in England.

I suggest trying small local fast food shops. Some have nice fish and chips, mainly sole. Or buy them from the frozen section and fry them at home.

All of the British/Irish style pubs do fish and chips... Delaneys, Bulldogs, etc. The Dublin Jack used to and presumably will when it reopens upstairs from Bulldogs...

I haven't noticed curry sauce being available, but then I've never asked either.

The best value for money that I have seen so far is the one served at a pub style place in Sai Kung. The very English sounding name escapes me - is it Dutchess of Kent?? It is quite close to the bus terminus at Sai Kung. They also sell curries as well. Since you are in Tai Po you may find that convenient.

Post 97 in Lan Kwai Fong in Central does good fish n' chips but it is expensive!

Chippy in Central (near Stanley Street) is good but I hate the location. Also it may be hard to find for first timers.

Also the Dicken's Bar at the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay (close to SOGO) sometimes has fish n' chips as part of their curry lunch buffet. It's delicious! Call them in advance and find out if they are having it on their buffet menu that day.
