Let me translate, the 68 year old Filipino lady was walking towards Wan Chai direction on Kennedy Road, the driver of the taxi informed the police that he wasn't speeding but has no idea why the taxi went up on the pavement and hit the lady, he said that he did see the lady, he passed the breathalyser test.
Locals said that the pavement is very narrow but the police said that the pavement meets the requirements and the road according to the transport dept is not a black spot area.
Probably half asleep, given the onerous rental contracts these guys face they are caught between the devil and the dark blue sea. In the UK the damage has been seen by this. The problem for sleep is that the police can't test for it like they can with booze or drugs.the driver of the taxi informed the police that he wasn't speeding but has no idea why the taxi went up on the pavement and hit the lady, he said that he did see the lady, he passed the breathalyser test

hemlock's take on it.
I find it shocking that the 18" piece on concrete can be called a pavement. Pedestrians don't matter in this city.

Sleep deprivation is a real issue not only in HK, I think it is all over the world when the economy is heading south. The amount of accidents involving those gigantic 18 wheel trucks in the USA have been on an increase due to the long hours that the drivers work.
When we were in Guilin last month, enroute to Yangshao, another tour bus which was 3-4 vehicles in ahead of ours (tour bus) was involved in a headon collision. A truck driver was killed. Apparently, the truck driver fell asleep at the wheel on a 2 lane highway coming from the opposite direction.
