Pawn and Crossroads Charity Appeal
June 10, 2010
Filed under News, Things To Do
Each year, The Pawn supports a charity as part of its celebrations and in 2010, the restaurant is supporting Crossroads Foundation, a Hong Kong-based, non-profit organisation that links those who are in need with those who can provide help.
From May 15 until June 30, Patrons are invited to donate designated items that are urgently needed by Crossroads. In turn, guests will receive a $5 or $10 cash voucher (depending on item) per donated item to be used at The Pawn.
Designated items which will be accepted for donation are: computers, laptops, monitors, printers, sewing machines, DVD players, blankets, heaters, cutlery (set of 4), toasters, electric kettles, rice cookers, table lamps, bed sheets (in all sizes), towels, sports equipment (skipping rope, soccer balls, basketballs etc), plastic toys and stationery – new exercise and note books (2 per set), new pencils and pens (set of 20).
All items must be in new or good condition and electrical items must be in good working order. So if you’re sick of the clutter in your flat, go ahead and donate that old computer, blanket or heater.
In addition, The Pawn For Charity Program reaches out further this year by engaging in a direct fundraising effort – 20 percent of each sale from The Pawn’s signature Fish and Chips will be donated directly to Crossroads Foundation.
Crossroads distributes approximately 50 percent of its goods within Hong Kong – supporting Social Welfare Department sponsored cases, as well as local non-government organisations like St. James Settlement, Ronald McDonald House and Operation Smile.
Guests can donate their items at The Pawn’s Living Room from 2pm – 5pm daily beginning May 15 till June 30.
The Pawn is located at:
62 Johnston Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong

Showstopper is an entirely improvised musical in an innovative and original format: a writer has one hour to create a hit show and enlists the audience’s help. The fun-filled show, will be in Hong Kong from April 13th to 18th at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.
Each night the crowd provide the title, themes and ideas; The Showstoppers create a musical from scratch. Utterly unpredictable, replete with dazzling dance routines, musical mayhem, side-splitting comedy and plenty of drama, Showstopper leaves delighted audiences singing all the way home.

New to Hong Kong, or just visiting? There are a number of activities you can watch or take part in to give you an insight into local culture. But it’s hard to think of an issue that unites Hong Kong people so well as a flutter on the gee-gees. If local equine enthusiasts can’t make it to the racecourse on a Wednesday night, then they will cluster around the streetside betting shops, form sheets firmly in hand.
Even Deng Xiaoping found it necessary to reassure Hong Kong people that horse racing would continue as normal after the Handover.
