Christmas In Hong Kong: What To Do

November 28, 2008
Filed under Culture, Guides, Things To Do

When the temperature drops to the 20s in Hong Kong, the boots, scarves, and gloves come out almost instantaneously. If you hail from anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere, you might scratch your head in confusion. But when the locals bundle up

, it’s a good sign that Winter and the holidays are looming just around the corner.

j0400930If you’re yearning for a little taste of the cold, there are some ways to remedy that instead of waiting for the chill in February to come around.

Go to one of the indoor ice skating rinks for a blast cool air. Glacier, located at Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong, offers an unlimited skating time for $50 during their afternoon to evening session from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

For a more unique experience, Sky Rink at Dragon Centre in Sham Shui Po has a large rink that simulates snow falls. There is an unlimited skating fee of $40 for morning sessions and $45 for afternoon sessions, from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm.

Lastly, there is Ice Palace at Cityplaza in Tai Koo, which holds morning and afternoon sessions for $45 and weekend sessions for $50.

But don’t let the lack of cold weather and snow define your winter experience in Hong Kong. Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Chinese New Year ignite the street markets, skyscrapers, and everything in between with a slew of parades, festivals, and special performances.
